Birds: feeding and watching

This page is divided into 3 sections: 1) Yard List of all the birds seen in or from my yard from January 1, 2000 until today, 2) Travel Lists of other birds I've seen in traveling or on vacation, and 3) Links to other interesting sites about birds and in particular, birdwatching.

Birds in My Back Yard

I live in a housing development in a mixed forest habitat (pine, oak, cyprus) in the Central California coastal area around one mile from the ocean. The following yard list has been compiled since January 1, 2000. An asterisk (*) indicates birds that appear year round. Rare birds are indicated by the year in which I saw them or by the number of times (3x=3 times). Birds seen from my yard but not actually in my yard are indicated by a (^) symbol. In some cases, the identification was made by sound alone. My criteria for putting a bird on the list is positive identification of a bird that can be seen from anyplace on the property (even if I saw the bird while not on the property).
